National Navy SEAL Museum National Navy SEAL Museum Hutchinson Island, FL Hutchinson Island, FL Full-time Full-time $50,000 - $70,000 a year $50,000 - $70,000 a year The National Navy SEAL Museum, located in Fort Pierce, FL since 1985, is looking for an experienced Curator to care for our extensive collection of artifacts and loan items.
This position requires the candidate to have a background in curating public exhibitions, managing and digitizing historical military artifacts, and maintaining the integrity of a historic artifacts.
The ideal candidate should be knowledgeable, attentive, and able to oversee the acquisition, preservation, and display of Naval History and Heritage command collections and acquired works.
The curator will work closely with the Naval History and Heritage Command, local and global military communities, collectors, institutions, and other professionals in the Military Museum arena to create engaging exhibitions and installations that educate and inspire the public.
The curator may manage budgets, coordinate events, and develop educational programs to promote community engagement with the military museum community and museum guests.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Develop timely, exciting, original exhibitions that meet the departmental curatorial goals and initiatives.
This includes but is not limited to drafting budgets, managing deadlines and checklists, preparing, and managing loan requests, and collaborating with graphic designers on exhibition and catalog design.
Research artifacts for upcoming exhibitions.
This research often requires both local and statewide entities.
Serves as a point person for exhibitions & collections with external collaborators and internal colleagues and seeks to streamline communications and manage deliverables.
Write and edit all content for exhibition descriptions, curatorial texts (wall intros and object labels), catalogs, gallery guides, training documents, communications, and marketing materials.
Oversee and manage digital archival database to track historical artifacts in Past Perfect Software.
Ensure that pieces not displayed are correctly stored and cared for to maintain value and condition.
Interface with other internal staffers to ensure proper coverage for events and receptions.
Accurately record and catalog documents and other artifacts exhibited within the galleries.
Handle artifacts appropriately when installing, de-installing, packaging, and shipping Provide copy and content to our Marketing & Communication Department.
Work with outside museums to develop and execute projects and exhibits.
Note that this is not an inclusive list and team members are at times asked to assist with other tasks to best serve the Museum's administration.
Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Museum Studies is required Not less than five years of relevant work experience Knowledge and interest in Military History Applied knowledge of professional principles, practices, and procedures.
Established relationships with artifact donors and military institutions.
An understanding of visitor-centered approaches to content, development, and interpretation in exhibition galleries and in digital spaces.
Ability to handle several projects simultaneously, meet multiple deadlines, and remain organized.
Ability to participate in some evening and weekend events.
